well my daughter gets social security and they ask me to report how i spend the money every year including any money saved. mind you, i live below poverty level. i get under 1600 a month including work paychecks. My daughter gets a total of $800 a month in social security benefits, which is half of what I make on disability and part time work. So being she makes half of my income, i report she pays half of all bills in house (it is just me and her in my house) $400 in rent. $150 in food, $100 in extra activities (been in all types of dance now trying soccer), $300 for tutor ( she has learning disabilities and really needs this), the the small petty stuff..abut $100 for clothes for school, breakfast for a month EVERYDAY!, after school snacks and dinner... and don't forget the keeping up with the Jackson's! if the neighbor has something your kid can't go with out. being broke I have found special ways to make her think she is coming on top. this year she got a season p to six flags. her friends are jealous but dont realize i dont but the food and extra games! I saved up for months for it and no it has turned out to be a free event for our family for many months. PS if wanting to raise kids on a shoe string budget, look on groupon and living social.
